Web skills week 10 at a summary

The mega event and the course was in fact  true for me as  a dream can come true. In fact  every EL teachers  has sound knowledge in content and  the technology tools and skills enhanced by the course  has become scent to beautify the 21st century teaching/ learning. The skills and exposure I got from the course is an indicator of the empowerment of the teacher from Nepal like developing country who will represent himself among other teachers as epitome of courage, confidence, catalyst and change. This was a golden opportunity to learn from eminent scholars and educationists for me. My experience in this web skill course has convinced  me that I can be a vehicle for the professional  development of teachers in my district in the days  to come. It has refreshed my teaching and added new skills of integrating technology tools in teaching.
As my tenth week achievement I  did nothing more than loti survey. finally I am here with my heavy heart to say goodbye to all.

The course was a showcase for every teacher revealing where we are and what the future ELT teacher can do or be. Although Nepal is still a developing country and and it is a part of global village  the technology will reach  in every villages if  more teachers get this opportunity.

I would therefore like to thank my sponsor, The Oregon University, RELO Kathmandu, US Embassy Kathmandu Nepal and me myself who has been able to  stand as an Access Teacher for having faith and sincere cooperation on me.

Week 9 Achievement on Learning Style

How fast the time was killed! Every week has brought something new to me. The course has brought  me new skills and  changed my mind on using technology tools in teaching. This ninth week has shined me with different types of learning styles and the way and  the technology tools to cope with. Now I am clear that different technology tools and websites are designed focusing individual differences and multiple intelligence. These are my due achievement from the course week. Continuous practice on such tools is so fun. I am here now if I have the chance to do this course from the beginning, I will be perfect one. Last week may be a time of great sadness and unwanted week.I offer my gratitude for all for your valuable comment, feedback, support and extra  time .
Thank you.

Refltion on Week 8

Dear Donna &all
Needless to say every week I was busy in many professional involvements. I enjoyed the Access Graduation of our first cohort on the last of February. The main task of the week was Project task and sharing with project partner. As a poor kid I have purposed nothing more than a simple project plan on using blog in the class. As many of you e-partners offered me as project partners but finally I could have Basu Guragai from Nepal which made me feel free. It was easy to have talks quite often. We are having talks once every day. Nicenet discussion and different readings and writing its reflection are other tasks of the week.  ANVILL is new technology tool that I came to know this week. Some exercise to be posted in the toolbox, wallwisher andare so funny. And I am worried that now we are in week nine ,it means we are leaving  soon. But this course has given me a new birth.
Thank you.

Waiting for your comments & feedback.
Thank you.

My Reflection on Week 7

As usual every week has become a busy week. This week also I was busy in many professional involvement. The main task of the week was readings and its reflection writing. I went through the article by Dimitrios Thanasoulas and Glori Chaika. But I prefer Thanasoulas's one. I went through and through but finally only reading the theory doesn’t mean interactive it needs implementations in communicative way. I tried to generate the ideas of what why and how learner autonomy. Focusing on how aspect I came to the conclusion that with the help of technology tools it is easy and faster to have learner autonomy which is a quick catalyst of learning. Working on project task and having project partner has become new great fun. I am unable to do anything on wall wisher or padlet. Hope we will be successful in our project until its deadline.
Waiting for your comments & feedback.
Thank you.

Practical Sixth Week

Practical Sixth Week

This week remained the week of my professional development. I was so busy in my career in different ways. One I had to take care on this web skill e learning course where I have to learn and share my experiences. This sixth week was focused on Interactive classes and Interactive power point. Teaching large classes is challenging. But using Technology in large classes is great ideas for interactive classes where we can enhance learning by engaging students actively. I was thinking how power point becomes interactive but as created my own power point slides and came to close of its meaning.

There was a mega event of the English teachers or fellows in Kathmandu Nepal called 18th International Conference of Nepal English Language Teachers’ Association. More than 800 participants got chances to share different presentation and 250 presenters presented their best sharing on ELT. I got a golden opportunity as I was carrying out task on power point I came closer to it. Now I am clear on power point and can carry out similar power point presentation.
By the end of the sixth week I have known many ideas on language teaching and learning through web skills course and my participation on NELTA Event. .In the sixth week, I have known what interactive and standard power-point is. Similarly, I knew the concept on teaching different methods on large class.

I am eagerly waiting for your feedback.

Reflective Week 5

Though, I was busy with some professional tasks, week 5 has brought new surprises in my life. I have got the opportunity of reading the articles on rubric, alternative assessment, project based learning and web quests. Replacing my traditional way of teaching, I found them quite interesting and interactive to learn by sharing through this vast learning circle.

The article on alternative assessment gave me insight on the use of alternative assessment while evaluating students work. The reasons of my likes are: it fosters the learner-centered classroom; these methods give learners opportunities on their linguistics development and their learning processes. As the features of it are solely based on students’ performance and evaluation, it provides enough opportunities for the students to participate not only in their learning activities but assessment as well. I think incorporating alternative assessment with traditional forms of testing will be quite useful and effective in ESL/EFL class.

Another task, I went through was web quest. Going into it, I felt little difficulty but finally I was successful in having the URL. But still I have done nothing more than that I have created the URL. Project -based learning, is my next achievement of the fifth week.
This week as a project work, I dealt about the problem that I am facing in my class room along with the possible solution. Finally, I have learnt  a lot from this web skill course.

My   Experiences and Achievement   in Web skill-Week 4
This week was a very busy week for me. I had to involve in many activities for our different  professional  purpose.  In Nepal, we have our common home for all English Teachers called Nepal English Language Teachers Association ( NELTA ) and in all districts we have our branches. NELTA Gorkha is one of our branches and we are in its 7th year. It was Yesterday we completed our Annual General assembly with a two day secondary level teacher training. The AGM has reformed a new Executive committee loading me the responsibility of Treasurer. Before I was a member and I had to manage the things for the AGM / training. This has led me to the professional platform.
Secondly I haven’t been able to go thoroughly for the tasks and the project. However I have addressed some issues   that we have been facing in our class such as restriction on mobile phones, fear for the SLC exam, experience in technology, internet facility and power cut. Addressing the issues I have learnt how to overcome the problem such as managing additional computers with internet connection, start   technology   enhanced  acitivities  and  starting  different  login accounts.
Thirdly I have tried to plan a technology enhanced lesson plan. And, some  how it may not be so fruit ful that It  a very first start for the technology . This week has provided me a lot of links for learning and future use .Delicious really has been delicious.
I am alittle late so forgive me if I  di it  it is meaningless .

Week 3 In Short

Week 3 a New Encouragement and Access to the New World.

The very beginning of the third week took  my some hours to go through the different posts posted by my colleagues and their valuable feedback and comments.Reading and writing the reflection on different articles gained knowledge and skills both. This week I am glad in the matter that Prem Phyak our Teacher who has contributed with outstanding article for the the learning log that I came to know through this week. Although I have gone through Aleyda Linares, National Pedagogical University, Honduras Project Report on "Plan and conduct action research, which involves a change related to technology use in your classroom' for my task I also have touched others too. So I felt a comprehensive week 3 in one hand.

I was little confused and bewildered in dealing and working on delicious . First I had no concept of delicious. I was thinking delicious is similar to blog where we can see our posts. So I easily created the account and started to see it as a blog. What I was wrong with it was my trial to post like in the blog. Some times I went wrong with my delicious URL too. This reminded me with psychological learning theory of Trial & Error. You guys can see the proof of my saying/quote 'Your last mistake is your first teacher'. Now I am perfect at delicious where I have collected some useful links.

Thirdly I want  to express my opinion on commenting and feeding back that one person following different persons in the net is better  so that everyone  can be in touched with everyone.
Thanks for your kind comment.

Week Two in Web skills Winter 2013

My Week Two in Web skills Winter 2013
This week I was not  so comfort. I had to face power cut for three days. That's why I could not log in my computer and see everyone's postings. As I have been using google search engine for searching everything Now I am clear there is more than this Google only. Objective exercise on ABCD model is so nice. I appreciate this ideas because if we always develop our lessons in such forms, some how materials to be used, activities and expected outcomes/behavior and time limit etc are all illustrated in a single sentence. This is the most valuable achievement for me.Everyone's comments and feedback also have led me into my progress.
Thank you instructor Donna and Thank you all.

Week 1 in Web skills/Blogging

Success in Week 1/Blogging
Greetings &Cheers!
Facing so many problems and struggling them I am here to post my experiences of my first week on Building Teaching Skills Through Interactive Web Winter term 2013. As the saying "Child shows the man as morning shows the day" the course has developed a new skill on me. Now I am proud of the course and the course provider.I am a teacher and many discussion forums have been working and arguing on behalf of language teaching and use of technology. As I created my blog and went through the blog links of my e-participants, I am clear on blog and its application in our class.I have deleted all the misconception on blogging from my mind. It has encouraged me on better use blogging in the class if possible. For me, I use to say, "Your last mistake is your first teacher". This quote gets lots of space to be illustrated. Comments are much valuable than what the original post is. So from this very beginning I learnt that our home post is what we have already learnt but the comment and the skills of commenting or discussing is the outcome of the courses not only web skills but  also the others too.
Next interesting thing of the week is setting Ground Rules which I call House Rule in my work place. Our instructor didn't burden us with her strict monopoly. She tried to gather information from all the participants and made us feel easy. This is democratic learning, encouraging learners and participatory/collaborative learning.I have felt much happiness that I have no words to express my pleasure.
Finally I want to express my sincere  respect and honor to my Instructor, assistants and fellow colleagues and thank to the course provider. Waiting for next discussion and collaboration.
Upendra.
